Loveless # 11, Civil War Frontline # 6

Loveless # 11, add new plot points, new assasins, and more mystery than you can shoot with a six shooter, Keep em coming.
Civil War Fontline # 6. exactly what is the point of the sleeper cell story. it's kinda pointless so far. Really like the main story and Speedball in the accused is still getty gritty.
Overall worth the price of admission.
What are you reading?

We hope to have a pretty cool lucky creature deal to announce this weekend.

Just watched the White Countess. Pretty good. Effort was made to make it historically accurate. And since Asian History , especially early 20th century has always been my study, I enjoyed it even more.
Now Playing (again) Alien Hominid Gamecube
Now Reading, American Born Chinese (at work)
Now listening, Black Hawk Down soundtrack,
Now eating, Hummus.

the Illusionist. D-

Wow. this movie sucks. Neil Burger directs some pretty good actors in Edward Norton and Paul Giammiti and makes a movie that is so trite, so full of cinema faux pas that I just can't find whats redeeming about this film. The story can be figured out way before the climax, the filming is ugly, janky and dark, and the whole twenty minute introduction feels like an afterthought and not really essential. Certain photoshop elements are used to the point of distraction like the glow on the memories. God, the more i think about this film the more I hate it. I'm sorry, this is just bad cinema. It's a shame really, I could use a good magic movie. Let's hope Christopher Nolan's Prestige delivers because this sure as heck didn't.

300, wow. just wow.

O.k. geek juices in overdrive right now. For the longest time Frank Miller didn't want his stories filmed. Sure the ones he didnt own got turned into movies anyway(batman, daredevil.) Then came Robert Rodriguez who convinced him to make Sin City with him. And Miller warmed up a little to Hollywood. Now Aint it Cool News has posted the trailer for the upcoming 300 movie based on his graphic novel of the same name. The trailer is here
This looks like it will put the rest the bad memories of Alexander, kingdom of heaven, and Troy, and finally get us back to those Trojan epics we've based all our modern storytelling on. hotness.

COMICS!

Big week for me and funny books. All A plusses here.
Astonishing X-Men # 17 is typical of this storyline so far. You spend most of your time wondering what's in the characthers head and what's actually happening. And I'm not sure exactly how Whedon is going to wrap it up, but pretty nice and still the only X-book worth reading.

Civil War # 4. Wow. Steve Mcniven's art is prefect, and how after this issue could anyone really be on Tony and Reed's side. this is some serious stuff. Man, Iron Man is so close to be the most hated 'hero' in the Marvel U.

And Moon Knight # 5. not quite as intense as before but heck a David Finch Moon Knight is just something so nice.

witness gaming history

tommorow morning in nyc nintendo holds a press conference. it's really unique that gamers are so ready for this, and the unsuspecting mass public is kind of clueless right now. come this christmas it seems they won't be able to ignore it. It so reminds me of the 8-bit days, when there was this newness to video games. and there was this upbeat attitude about the whole experience.

It's so funny as well that thousands( maybe millions by some reports) of fanboys(myself included) just spent the past hour or so hitting refresh on our computers reading a supposed live blog from the Japanese press event. The event actually starts in a few hours. Amazing in this technological day and age, we can't figure out the difference in time zone. we all got pawned, and yeah i hate that word, but we did. see you tommorow or maybe tonight if we now have our timeline straight.

the proposition

Well, who knew that Nick Cave could write movies? This is a western, set in Australia, that is as good as any western of the past twenty years. Tightly paced with plenty of wide angle shots and great acting by Guy Pearce, Ray Winstone and John Hurt.
Very gorey violence, so go prepared for that. It's funny this is a limited theatrical release. It definetly is more of a bigscreen movie than say Beerfest. but oh well America pays for what plays.

fun.

O.k. fun times, no sleep. Friday we drove to grinell to see rainer maria. they still have so much energy. love them. really do. also had a pretty good chinese buffet there in little ole grinell.

slept three hours got up went to chicago for the creation event. 1st let me say im not a big fan of the way creation does cons. they only have one main room for programming, and a dealers room and the rest of the day revolves around autographs. if your like me and could care less about someones handwriting, then it leads to some overpriced boredom. I enjoyed the thirty minites each that Shatner and nimoy spoke though. They are truly class acts and really quite funny together. I'm glad I got to see them and here good news about Shatner meeting with JJ Abrams but not thrilled with Creation. I guess i just prefer the more local, (i.e. not for profit cons). Off to see The Proposition.

Full Weekend ahead. west, then east.

Tonight I'm driving out to Grinell, Ia to catch Rainer Maria and Driver of the Year, then its straight home and to bed for me as I rise to go to Chicago to see Mr. Shatner and Mr. Nimoy. What a geek moment.
Sunday back to work and then to see Nick Cave's movie The Proposition starring an always intense Guy Pierce.

I'm really digging Fullmetal Alchemist. didn't think I would but man that show is deep. I'm on episode 8. Maybe the best storytelling I've seen in the format in quite some time.
Also not so deep the new Dr. Who is actually pretty fun.
Playing lots of Super Monkey Ball ds. Some beyond good and evil on the ole cube.
Reading Kwaidan by Jung and Jee-Un.
Really really spending too much time on the Wii message boards.

haha ps3 worldwide launch delayed

u.s. and japan only get 500,000 at launch. hahaha. it's so funny. Sony what in the world is going on over in your tokyo offices?
There are some hilarious photoshop posters over on thisiswaiting.com
My favorite has got to be the dear sony Wii wish you a merry X-mas. Wii60 looks more and more like the way to go. God I'm just trying to comprehend how a multibillion dollar company like Sony can run a business so poorly this past year. Really what is happening? Stocks will fall, heads will roll, and Nintendo and Microsoft will laugh all the way to the bank.
