The simpsons!!

Pure. Evil. Genius. Movie. This was a great way to spend an hour and a half of my life. It reminded me of why I used to love the Simpsons so much. One of the cleverest movies I've seen in quite some time.

Dark Horse has relaunched Dark Horse Presents as an online comic. You can find it HERE The first issue has a Joss Whedon story so you now know you have to check it out. Dark Horse Presents in the eighties launched a lot of careers and more importantly new comic thought. Let's hope it follows that tradition in it's online form.

I got the coolest Peas shirts from my brother yesterday. It has a Pirate Pea and an octupus on it and it's better than anything I could draw. Ill try to take a picture of it for everyone soon.

Star Trek at Comic-con

So on a day where there was supposed to be announcements galor we get this new Star Trek poster(oohhh retro) and confirmation that Zachary Quinto (SYlar from Heroes) is spock and Lenoard Nimoy is coming back to. and that's it. Oh well if they are really going to start filming in November, it won't be long till we hear who is going to be Kirk.
Indiana Jones posters are cool too. 2008 may be the best Geek year ever. It's nice to always think that, but frankly this year has been outstanding.

Hellboy Darkness Calls #4

Does anyone else feel like their reading a mythology lesson when reading this book. It's so good. And Baba Yaga is very well done in just the few panels she appears in. This is one of the best Hellboy stories yet.

Anyone care to train me?

I really like Bomberman Live. 8 players doing nothing but blowing each other up. And it's so cute that I always find it funny when people with gears of wars gamertags are playing it. Both games your mission is to kill, but you couldn't find two farther examples of killing than Bomberman's cute I win! to the chainsaws of Gears. Anyway, point is I suck at Bomberman Live. Havent won one silly tournament. I need to get better or the enjoyment will seriously wane. I need a trainer, are you up to the challenge?

Along with the recently announced Lucky Creature Attacks #2 there are two other things, that really may be truly fantastic, and I hope I can announce something by mid August. It's a bit ambitous and I will be very happy if these things happen. And I hope your ears will be to.

Harry Potter comes out.

Last night I worked the Harry Potter release. I don't think I've ever seen that many people in a retail establishment in my life. Tonight at work may be just as bad as all the people who didn't stay up late come swarming in. I wonder how long it will be till we see this kind of phenomenon in bookstores again. It may never happen. Harry benefited alot from the fact that popular culture became a machine sometime in the 80's especially children's popular culture. It's such a media driven market now, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. But will a new series build it's audience with each release the way Harry did? One can only hope.

Comic reviews, Lenore, Zero Killer

Zero Killer is a brand new comic by the author of the Rex Mundi series. In this universe the world has gone nuclear back in the 70's and the New York skyscrapers have become the home for many different gangs who battle to stay high up in the air. The story follows Zero who feels like a bounty hunter in this first issue. The art is great and Dave Stewart does a great job with the colors as usual.

Lenore #13 Roman Dirge takes Lenore into the world of color and it looks nice but doesnt really affect the story in any way. Lenore is still her distrubing cute little self and she still has some pretty whacked out companions along for the ride. Very funny stuff and there is a reason this comic is as popular as it is.

Also read the Gaurdians miniseries that Marvel put out a few years ago. It's a nice coming of age story involving all kinds of aliens. It's not bad if you can find it in your quarter bins at your local shop.

MN trip!

So we had a great vacation up to the twin cities. Started at Convergence and once my geek weekend was over we headed to the Minnesota Center for the BOOK arts for jess and then went exploring for a while downtown. Ended up staying in the North Suburbs. Day 2 was at the Walker one of the nicest Contemporary Art museums I've ever been too. Almost all the shows were very good. Then we walked Hennepin and Lyndale and saw some pretty neat stores before having some really amazing Vietnamese.
Our final day was spent at the Mall of America, which really is a big mall with a theme park in it. Pretty cool but not too many stores you cant find elsewhere. I really reccomend Benucci TUcci? for lunch. Youll get a really great meal for less than it would cost outside of the mall.
Overall a Great Trip!

E-3 Microsoft demos

A bunch of new demos are up on Marketplace because of E3.
I really enjoyed the NCAA demo of course and can't wait till Tuesday to buy the full game. I am not a fan of the Stuntman Ignigtion demo as that type of gameplay just feels restricted and kind of boring. Full Auto seems much better suited for that type of gameplay and even that was boring.
Ace Combat six seems like a great airplane game. Too bad I suck at flying so much that it isn't even worth my time.
Then theirs Blue Dragon a game I had high hopes for but it looks kind of bland and I think I'll just wait for Eternal Sonata which I've already sung it's praises and maybe pick up BD sometime next year when it hits bargain prices. So demos are good but the only one that really wowed me was the one i was going to get anyway and that's NCAA. hopefully we will get some more before the week is out.

Leaving town, Transformers, and Comic reviews

Were leaving town early tommorow morning for Minnesota for a little Convergence and some much needed vacation time in the twin cities. So no updates till next thursday at the earliest.

Just saw Transformers and I got to say I enjoyed it alot. It's hard to redo a cartoon that has some many fans passionate and you cant help but feel a little bit squeezed when you only have two hours. Overall its fun, it's big and Optimus is very very cool. If you love explosions, well Michael Bay has plenty of them here and the special effects are phenomenal.

New Warriors #2 keeps the path of secrecy going and looks to become a nice little mystery before it's all done. The crew knows the history of these characthers and that always goes a long way.

O.k. have a great week. see you later

July Movies

So July's movies have a very high built in audience as it is. There's also comedies like I know pronounce you Chuck and Larry that may steal the show but Transformers which is open now will probably be hard to topple right away.

Then on the 14th the juggernaunt tht is Harry Potter comes back to theatres.

Sunshine on July 20th will probably be the least money maker of them all, but it is from the director of Trainspotting and 28 days later Danny Boyle and it looks like a normal Sf movie which we usually dont get anymore in favor of the explosion type spectacle.

Lastly it's the movie 18 seasons in the making. The Simpsons. On the Big Screen. Everyone will go. Somewhere we will be dissapointed.

Smashing Pumpkins Tarantula

So this video proves what many have known. Smashing Pumpkins are Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin minus James Iha and D'arcy and including a bunch of new people. Still sounds like Pumpkins which leads one to believe all those Corgan wrote all the music anyway rants from the nineties. Anyone else picking up Zeitgest?
