Momix: Lunar Sea Review

Jessica took me to see Momix Lunar Sea last night. The show which combines dance and the illusionary effects of blacklighting makes for quite a visual experience. It's pretty neat when you can only see half of the dancers body and they can get away with some very neat tricks this way. I also really enjoyed the images that were being thrown onto the stage as they added to the overall atmosphere provided by the soundtrack. Hancher's lighting wasnt quite perfect and there were times where i could see the dancer in all black or the tool that was being used for them to move around the stage. But i like to know secrets so that didn't ruin anything for me. I'd reccomend this show to anyone who likes Visual arts, electronic music, or just film in general. How are other Momix shows? Do they use some of the same lighting techniques?

Star Trek XI is go!

O.k. Star Trek Eleven has officially been announced by Paramount for a Christmas 2008 release. It could be the best christmas present ever or the worse blow to my most embarrising favorite show. J.J. Abrams is definetly directing and IGN is now saying that Matt Damon is indeed deep in negotiations to play KIrk, Adrien Brody as Spock and Gary SInise as Mckoy. They also claim James Mcavoy(Last King of Scotland) may play Scotty and Daniel Dae Kim (Lost and Enterprise) is a possibilty for Sulu. I'd be surprised if they get all these actors but if they do then a reboot may indeed be neccesary. That's some serious star power and you got to believe this will be a bigger budgeted Star Trek than we have ever seen before.
Fingers crossed. If this thing bombs, well that will be it for the franchise for a long long time. If it succeeds expect a new show of some sort(maybe animated) and then watch CBS exploit the name until it grows stale again and we need another rebooting. Fingers Crossed.

ughh, time to bash sony, again

Look. I wish things were different. I really really do. I have nothing against the Playstation 3. In fact i think it makes pretty pictures, the thing is just too damn expensive and there's really not that much to play on it. What I'm hating is Sony itself. The european market is now getting a butchered PS3 that has no backwards compatibitly. If i was in europe id import an american one today. Heck there's ten sitting at my Target. Send me a 1,000 dollars and ill air ship it to you tommorow. How do you promise something and then rip it out because your not selling so many of your units you thought you would? And if you do take out features, then don't you have a responsibilty to your consumer and lower the price?
And don't even get me started on the psp. I kinda want one if for nothing else all the retro compilations on it, but when they hell are you going to drop your price? The DS is killing the psp worldwide and what's sony doing about it? Hiring advertisers to play on game message boards acting like fans of the system and making really bad rap videos about how cool it is too own.
Sony, if you dont want to end up like Sega, SNK, Panasonic, 3DO, and Atari then fire some people and get it together. Of course with all the money your movie studios rake in for you it will probably be years before you have to file the Japanese Version of chapter 11. But keep acting like king of the hill and certainly you'll fall off your perch.

Ghost Rider, not so much bad, not so much good.

Ghost Rider is a mixed bag for me. On the one hand you have a pretty decent reprensentation of the characther from the comics. It looks like Ghost Rider on the screen and the special effects are definetly worthwhile. On the other hand there are some awful choices in camera work and the jokes all fall flat. That blame should rest on Mark Steven Johnson who not only was allowed to direct this after Daredevil, he even was allowed to write the screenplay. Im not sure why Marvel trusts him with there properties but I guess as long as he keeps getting money in the box office they will keep hiring him. It doesn't hurt that this is a Feburary movie and as such i could stomach it. But if it was running with the big boys in Summer I got to feel it wouldnt make much of an impact.
If comics are your thing, then you can probably enjoy enough of it to get by, you wont be amazed by any means, but may and spider man 3 are aways off, and it's either this or Norbitt. I can't wait for my summer "popcorn" flicks.

civil war concludes, sci-fi comics

Civil War # 7 Finally this series wraps up although it will be a while before all the tie ins die down, Im pretty pleased with the conclusion even if it leaves me hating half of the marvel heroes. I guess that means it did its job then and really kind of impacted what was becoming a very stale universe. Wonder how full reaching they will take the initiative thing. It would be cool if we had defined teams for all fifty states. Who would represent your State?

Bsg #6 Yeah im about through with this. It's just too short. Has no real impact for me.

Star Trek TNG Space Between #2. This feels like an episode of Next Generation, so if you enjoyed them, youll enjoy this. I did by the way.

Astonishing Avengers.

Astonishing X-men # 20 So it looks like Whedon will be able to wrap up his storyline by the time he leaves which is nice, but it will leave me without an x-book to look forward to. Nice pacing. Still just the right amount of humor. A

New Avengers #27. I dropped this book but thought id give this a try again. At first i thought Bendis missed writing Daredevil until finally the New (new) Avengers showed up. AThis lineup seem a bit underpowered to any of you? And shame on MArvel for that awful chickfila plug. bad product placement if ive ever seen it. B without the spiderad, c with it.

Empire! Empire! (I was a lonely estate) CD

So I just received a copy of Empire! Empire! (I was a lonely Estate)'s debut cd "When the Sea Becomes a Giant"
It is very good stuff, and should please fans of mineral, and pretty much anyone who likes music. The band likes long song titles and names and everything just sounds very very good.
You can sample a few songs on their myspace page and the band tells me youll be able to order it around feburary 16th from smartpunk.com . I'd recommend you all pick it up.

And remember members of this band appear on our compilation "our history and our future" in the band Sea Defeats Sparrow.

Fell is back!

Fell # 7 Image Comics 1.99 by Warren Ellis and Ben Templesmith. Thank You Thank You Thank you. I miss the backmatter not being in this issue, but other than that I had no clue I like good cop stories so much. Maybe I don't but heck if this isn't my favorite comic. Now if it only came out more than once every three months. Aplus.

Loveless # 15. Vertigo/DC 2.99 Now here's a comic that has kept it's scheldule for a little over a year now. It's still good, but with each issue I'm losing a bit of that shock factor that drew me in the first place. B-

So I got to see Lost in High Def last night for the first time. Ooohhh the Jungle is Green. I mean really really green.

lost comes back

Lost comes back in 24 hours and I can say Im excited but not estatic. Somethings been off for me this season and its not quite as good. The Unit has started to drag me in. It's very basic but just feels like a tom clancy movie. I'm actually looking more forward to Jericho's return than Lost. Maybe it's the feeling that it really isn't going anywhere fast. Here's hoping my HD Abc works tommorow, so I can see Hurley's pores. ewwww gross.

More ATHF

Heck while were on the subject here's the trailer for the Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters( actual title) Early screenings have been mostly negative but who cares? Aqua Teen is one of the best things Adult Swim has had and now with the added controversy I wouldn't be surprised if this movie actually makes money and considering the budget that shouldn't be that hard to do. Enjoy the trailer. In all its Lens Flare cheap photoshop glory.

Aqua Teen Ad is a Bomb Threat?

I just don't get it? How could anyone think this was a bomb threat? What kind of idiots are living in boston? The fact that the police arrested the man who made this neon mooninite just blows my mind. If i had seen it I would have thought it was one of the coolest things ever. And hey Adult Swim just got more press than they have in their entire existance.
The Original article on Cnn can be found here
Really. I cant believe this is news. What a bunch of overreacting morons. Look the Mcdonalds sign lights up. We're Screwed!
