Cross BronX, Gears of War

No new comics today. I did pick up the Cross Bronx Limited series by Michael Avon Oeming and Ivan Brandon and just got through the first issue. It's pretty good crime story so far and I love the art.
Gears of War is as good as everyone says it is. It's pretty addictive in its nature as well. I played my first online match today but I'm not really good enough to be playing agaisnt anyone else right now. I got killed pretty quickly. I really am enjoying the single player and am probably about a 1/3rd of the way through it. It's not often that anything lives up to hype, but so far I've got to say Gears does indeed.

BSG Last night.

Well O.k. I can buy everyone except maybe one of them. Pretty awesome stuff though huh? Leads to some pretty interesting twists for the 4th season which isnt till 2008!!! That's a pretty long hiatus but there is always that often rumored direct to dvd movie. Here's hoping it's true.

TMNT brings it back.

2007 may very well go down as the year of the franchise revival. TMNT plays very loose and fun and captures everything of the old movies and shows that has made the turtles so unique to begin with. What's surprised me about the movie was that their was actually a plotline and the cgi was used wisely with speed to do things that you couldn't do with actors. Nothing was forced either as Cowabunga sounded more natural now then it did in the 80's. There were alot of kids in the cinema and I hoped they enjoyed their first experience with the heroes in the half shell as much as I did. A very good family film and a very nice treat for those of us who remember Vanilla Ice in turtles 2.

Hey this was my first printmakers conference so add it to the list:> Next year's is in Richmond so maybe I'll be getting back to NC for a week then. Hope so.

Serenity Special edition in July.

So i'm normally opposed to Special Edition's or "double dipping" as it's called in the dvd business but I got to say a new 2 disc Serenity set will steal my money so fast it is not even funny. Especially if they replace the awful artwork from the first disc. All that could make it better would be that this dvd comes out in July and on the second disc we get a surprise trailer for a direct to dvd sequel. Not going to happen I know but one has to have hope. Stranger things have happened. Heck this movie is proof of that.

Strange..

so a whole weekend of March Madness has gone by and ive watched almost no basketball. that's just weird. I've been distracted I guess.
It's funny I got the 360 in order to play all those fancy looking hd games and what am i playing? Texas Hold Em poker over live. That's pretty ridiculous. The cool thing is they released the old arcade Turtles game and I'm going to dowload that tommorow. Oh how I miss these huge machines. There was one for The simpsons, X-men and this one. Some of the best quarter wasters ever.

punk planet reviews mark schwaber!

So the current Punk Planet with Ted Leo on the cover has a review of Mark's album now out on newstands. The review is kinda wonky because it starts on one page but doesn't finish on the second rather two pages over with no indication your reading the review. also they only credit pigeon records even though i sent them the review copy. all in all its more exposure for what we believe is one of the most underrated albums of last year. Have you heard it yet? we still have copies so hop on over and buy one..

st. louis.

Were back from St. Louis and it was a pretty fun two day excursion. We stayed at the Chesire near Forest Park and is a pretty neat hotel with a old british theme. We spent most of day one at the Loop where one of the best comic book stores for independent comics Star Clipper is located. This store has almost everything. Also did some vinyl shopping and had a great Thai meal to end the night. BAck at the hotel we spend twenty bucks on two drinks in the very cool, fox and hound pub.
yesterday we ventured out and hit Soulard's Farmers Market and then City Museum which is basically a 3 story Jungle Gym but built for adults. It's really a different experience.
Ran through the zoo on our way out of town and got home in time for Lost. Which begs the question, why have they turned Locke into an idiot??
I'll see if i can get some pictures uploaded tommorow.

300. great for comic fans, boys.

300 looks alot like the comic. thats pretty neat in and of itself. it's also very pretty. very pretty at times when you wouldn't expect it. overall its a great way to kick off the summer but I can't say im 100 percent happy with the the way the film left me. It had flashes of that movie magic that draws me in but at times i just felt a little more color here or there would have done wonders. Still if you like action movies and old war movies this blows Troy, Alexander and Kigndom of Heaven out of the water. A

We will be in St. Louis for the next two days so no posts until then. see ya!

Living and The Dead by Jason

The Living And The Dead by JAson published by Fantagraphics. Jason returns to his old silent style comic here and I really just prefer these stories. His simplistic drawings really have so much emotion to them without really doing anything else. This is a zombie love story and it has the nice pacing and neat Charlie Chaplinesque tricks that I've come to expect from Jason's work. A plus

Loveless # 16. Whose in the cave? Sooo many plots, so little happening. Still a very competent Vertigo Book. B plus.

Black Snake Moan. It's good.

Black Snake Moan is good. It just feels right and so southern it's giving me nightmares of my time in tennessee where we lived on the border of Missisippi. I really like Craig Brewer's style. I liked it in Hustle and Flow and I like it here. Samuel L. Jackson gives his best performance since Unbreakable and moves the picture along all by himself. If your looking for a good movie that doesn't follow all the rules of good movies, this picture is very very unique. So two straight win's for Brewer in my book, I look forward to a long career from him.

March Movie Picks!

Black Snake Moan, In theatres today. Craig Brewer's follow up to Hustle and Flow (one of my top five movie picks of 05) feature's Samuel L Jackson who finds a beat up Christina Ricci on the side of the road, and decides to save her, by chaining her to his couch. The trailer for this has all that southern vibe that Brewer had in Hustle and Flow and it also has that kinda off kilter Tarantino feel. This will be the only drama for the month.

MArch 9th 300. oh heck yeah. this looks like a freaking cartoon and I'm sure this will be more of a guys flick, but if it feels like summer movie season in march im fine with it. I am ready to have this movie be as good as I hope.

MAcrh 2oth. TMNT. oh turtles. you came back. the question is are you any good? I hope so because kids today could use some fun on the big screen, and a movie without Dakota Fanning.

Civil War Frontline #11

Civil War Frontline # 11 The end of the series finally comes with some extra content that actually makes you feel sorry for Tony Stark. I enjoyed civil war but am glad that it's over. I think Frontline managed to be a pretty neat companion to the main storyline.
If you want to read the entire series i just put my copies up for sale on thisEbay Auction Very Cheap.
